Resumo

The book Um mundo aflito. Memória de um tempo de ausência, by José Jorge Letria showcases the consequences caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus on the lives of Portuguese people. The photographs by Inácio Ludgero, the preface by Pedro Abrunhosa, as well as Letria’s poem “A vida triumpha em casa” establish a reading pact with the current pandemic times. In this connection with the present
world, the interpretation of the author(s) will unfold around absence, pain, and awe dictated by Covid 19. However, the book concludes with a utopian note, pointing to possibilities of overcoming the pandemic through a renewed pact of solidarity. We intend to emphasize how utopia is possible in an artifact where languages complement each other, presenting both photography and writing as a relevant contribution to the future memory of the pandemic.
